If not forever, then at least forever

They had spent the day on the beach. They had lain next to each other in the sun for hours and taken turns reading chapters from their new favorite novel. In between, they had quietly made their way around the small lake and had lunch at the chip shop.
Now the sun was slowly setting and it was getting quite chilly in the shade. They gathered their things together and looked forward to the long evening that lay ahead of them.

They had known each other forever and were a close-knit team. The inseparables, the dream couple. Admittedly, it was no longer the great, insatiable passion that kept them so close together. But over the years, something much greater had taken the place of the butterflies in their stomachs: the security of being able to rely on each other blindly, the awareness of having the same views and expectations of life, and a deep familiarity in all situations. The life that they had built up over the long time they had been together was worth continuing, even beyond wild desire for each other.
It had not been a question of “coming to terms” for them when they noticed that a certain erotic attraction had been lost over the years. They had been able to accept it naturally and calmly, without bowing to society’s pressure to be constantly erotically ready.

But neither of them had lost the fun of sex! It still played a big role in their lives. After all, they weren’t old, they had just been on one track for all these years. The way they dealt with it had astonished their friends, upset their family and caused mixed feelings among their neighbours.
After they had grown tired of always walking secretly through the city, covered up to the point of unrecognisability with glasses, hats and scarves, to “their” street and to “their” club, one day they had the courage to come out as passionate swingers’ club guests. They were confident enough not to be shocked by the reactions, but to take them with humour.
